§ Packaging Act

From 1 January 2019, the Packaging Act will replace the previous Packaging Ordinance. The aim of the Packaging Act is to avoid or reduce packaging waste by sending packaging for recycling. Distributors of plastic packaging must register with the “Central Office for the Packaging Register” (Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister). Registration and participation in a dual system results in a licence to place the packaging on the market.

The dual system is responsible for collecting and recycling the packaging.
